SEW LOVE, MAKE ART, BUILD COMMUNITY

Sew Much Love is an arts-based social enterprise that introduces homeless and vulnerable women to practicing artists, transforming raw materials into marketable handcrafted artworks. The center implemented the program in 2015 after discovering  a need for a safe day space for homeless and marginalized women. Over the years, it has evolved to include vulnerable women. Since its inception, Sew Much Love has helped more than 300 women create more than 500 marketable artworks; operated pop-up shops; staged theatrical productions; published a book; held art exhibits; and provided transitional income for women.

True to its tagline, “Sew Love, Make Art, Build Community,” the women are a community of artists who are not defined or overshadowed by their circumstances, but rather united in a creative sphere. The program has become a place of hope and healing for so many women. Further, it has created a sense of belonging—a key quality of life indicator that contributes to one’s self-worth and connectedness to others.

The primary goal is to provide a safe and secure environment in which 45 homeless and/or vulnerable women can collaborate with practicing artists and each other to produce works of art while increasing their self-worth and human capacity.
